Publisher’s Perspective

Chad Koenen

I’m not sure about you but it seemed like the holidays really snuck up on me this year. Maybe it was the warmer-than-usual weather throughout the month of December and the lack of snow for Christmas, but regardless of the reason, Christmas and New Years was gone in the blink of an eye.

Now that we are into the new year we have an exciting opportunity to offer someone at the Frazee-Vergas Forum, New York Mills Dispatch and Citizen’s Advocate in Henning. We are looking for an additional advertising representative to add to our staff.

As our business continues to grow and expand, we need additional staff members to help serve the greater Becker and Otter Tail County areas. This is a unique opportunity for someone to get in the community, visit with new and existing clients, and perhaps watch as our community continues to grow and expand.

The new advertising representative will receive a base pay with an above average commission for the sales made at all three newspapers and our various special sections. We offer paid time off, no nights or weekends and a flexible schedule that one would expect from a family-owned and operated business.

We are looking for a person with some sales experience, but we are willing to train the right candidate. Basically, we want our business to grow and are excited to offer this new opportunity at our family-owned business.

The right individual will be organized, be a team player and be willing to go and visit face-to-face with new and existing advertisers. There will be room for future growth and now is a great time to get into sales as our busiest part of the year is right around the corner.

I don’t know about you all, but I get bored sitting behind a desk, which is one of the reasons I got into this industry in the first place. If you are like me and need to get out of a cubicle or office when you work, give our office a call or email me at chad@henningadvocate.com.

The position will be open until filled and I would be happy to visit with you more about the position if you have a few questions.

In addition to searching for a new employee I wanted to address a common issue we have seen of late—unnamed Letters to the Editor. Over the past few weeks we have received a handful of Letters to the Editor that have not been signed, or with no phone number attached to the letter or email.

Our policy states that all Letters to the Editors must be signed and accompanied with a phone number so we can contact you if a question arises. Only your name and city you live in will be featured in the newspaper.

Letters to the Editor will not be included in the newspaper if they are not signed by the author.

So, if you have sent us an unsigned Letter to the Editor about a column not being in the paper or your taxes going up lately and have not seen it in the newspaper, you now know why it hasn’t been published yet.

We encourage everyone to have your opinion shared through Letters to the Editor and if you ever have a question please feel free to give me a call.
