Sports are a big part of the lives of my children. Whether it’s playing softball in the summer, volleyball in the fall, basketball in the winter, or just coming up with random games in the yard, we always seem to find ourselves getting into our competitive spirit for fun.
As our children get older they have even attended a few camps and clinics for the sport of their choosing across the region.
Last week Dani and I brought our oldest daughter Kendall to a volleyball camp at Concordia College in Moorhead. One of the people in charge of the two day volleyball camp is a familiar face across this area due to his work at the Frazee-Vergas Forum and New York Mills Dispatch.
Chris Hahn, who recently resigned his position as page designer, was one of the people who helped to run the camp at Concordia College. He was hired earlier this summer as an assistant volleyball coach for the Cobbers.
At one point during the volleyball camp Chris came up to Kendall and asked how we were doing and about our upcoming vacation. Even those little comments mean quite a bit to an athlete, as well as their family in making them feel welcome.
Kendall was a good sport when I asked her to get a picture with Chris after the camp was over, even if that meant we had to walk across the volleyball courts in front of everyone else who was still in attendance.
Anyway, it’s always fun to catch up with people in an impromptu way and we wish nothing but the best for the Concordia volleyball team this fall.
While our summer has been filled with sports and games at an almost dizzying pace, we will get a reprieve starting this week as softball will come to a close.
Summer is fun, but it seems like this summer has been one of the busier ones that I can remember.
