NYM mauls Menahga 62-0. Friday night saw the New York Mills Eagles claim their second straight Park Region Conference crown as the 1991 team completed their conference schedule with a perfect 5-0 mark. The game started out slow for the Eagles as their defense played tremendous, but Menahga’s defense also responded to the call with some aggressive defense that limited the Eagles to 103 yards in the first half. The second half saw the Eagles come out with intensity and fire as their 15-0 halftime lead soon turned into a 50-0 third quarter lead that all but wrapped up the contest for the Eagles on their home field. The Eagle explosion in the third quarter was triggered by an aggressive defense that scored on an interception return and a fumble return and a fumble return and a fumble return to the 3 yard line resulting in a touchdown two plays later. The offense then went to work scoring the final two touchdowns as the Eagles completed their scoring for the night. Scoring for the Eagles were Terry Frost with three touchdown’s, Mitch Becker and Eric Pajari with two touchdown’s each and Steve Tougas and Brandon Bernu with a touchdown each. Coaches Comments: The second half was excellent as we got a chance to work on some things we have been trying in practice for use in the playoffs. Keep up the good work and attitude, playoffs are less than seven days away. Coach Radniecki

The New York Mills school’s busses were given their semi-annual safety check by the Minnesota Highway Patrol on Oct. 1 and came away with a clean bill of health. In fact, the 16 buses and three other vehicles owned and operated by the school received as near a perfect score as possible as not one point was registered against any of the equipment although a couple of suggestions were made. The patrol check 48 critical areas on the vehicles, any one of which may possibly side line a bus for repairs. However, through the efforts of the bus drivers and Bill Makinen, district serviceman, everything was near perfect. According to Supt. Harold Wood, the inspection was one of the “best ever” all around and as one of the inspectors remarked, “one of the best in the state.” The district’s bus fleet travels some 750 miles each day during the school year plus making extra-curricular trips each week.
